Have adults interact with children. children physically turn “hard” gradually during growth while adults mentally turn soft when they participate children’s activities.

At first, I simply categorized the things into “hard” and “soft”. The high speed motion bridge and the railway nearby are two large and hard barriers isolating the open and soft site.

When I walked through and observed the site carefully, I realized that I could not simply use dualism to distinguish the urban elements. The stage of hard and soft are changing in each element:

The steel railway is hard but the wood rail ties are soft to reduce the pressure from the train. The rail ties are hard when they meet the rubber between them. Rubbers are crushed by the pressure, absorbing the heat and noise from the train. The rubber can also be considered as hardness when you see the soft vegetation grow out of them. The vegetation has the power to hold the bank composed of soft soil. The bank is also a hard edge when the most soft tide everyday collides and erodes it ...

The growth of a child is actually a process when their social skills and physical conditions gradually become stronger and harder. Children’s health care and education are also developed aiming at the growing process. Furthermore, we are eager to be rejuvenated in adults’ mentality with the growth of ages since the soft simplicity of children are becoming the treasure of a society in people’s growth.

Strong adults are present at the place where there might not be children in it, but guards and leaders could follow children, start to be involved in children’s life. In my project, children is the starting point as they will be the major service objects. Meanwhile, they will also be the core to center all the related programs so as to expand the programs to the adults. The intention is to soften all the adults mentality when they are taking care of the children.
